Mattapan

First inhabited by the Native American Mattahunt Tribe, Mattapan has a name that translates to "a good place to be" or "a good place to sit" for the Neponset River that meanders through it, and it is home to the largest Haitian community in Massachusetts. The 67-acre Boston Nature Center and Wildlife Sanctuary has over 150 bird species, 40 butterfly species and more than 350 plant species.
