West Roxbury

West Roxbury was once home to an experimental utopian community visited by writers including Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne and Henry David Thoreau. Centre Street is the main business district, and Millennium Park, once a landfill, now offers 100 acres of trails, ball fields and picnic areas.
